A Day at IMS

We have never had a bad time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This one-day-Trailblaising Adventure was no exception...

We joined our regulars at the American Legion for a little night-before-the-race beverages. Our ring master Miguel Andrews had the gang shouting over the jukebox of 'our' kinda music, and good times were had by all including not only the new guys, but Eddie Sachs, Jr., Ted Kocken & Digger Shelby :)

We left the Legion and took what Migs called a five minute walk...eh hem...I call BS (it was WAY longer than five minutes)...to the 1911 Grill @ Speedway Indoor Karting by Sarah Fisher. We didn't race, but the place was most definitely appropriate for the weekend of the 101st running of the Indy 500!

The food was just typical bar food...a bit disappointing & it took WAY too long to arrive table-side...but fun was had by all...and the drinks flowed without issues...the main reason we were there, so all was good :)

We were even fortunate to have the famous IMS Quilt Lady stop by for autographs and photo ops! A sweet lady not letting her wheelchair slow her down, she came prepared with a stack of photos and a black sharpie!

We ended our adventure in Digger Shelby's suite, taking in the night-time view of the track...there really is no better place to witness the awesomeness of IMS!

And we even got to spend about an hour talking to the VERY interesting legend, Bill Simpson. I didn't want to be tacky & ask for a photo (so I grabbed this one off the internet)...but he really is one full-of-life guy...as was our day at the Speedway!

Not going to lie...I'm glad we headed home to watch Sunday's race in our pajamas on the couch...but if we WERE to have been there for race day...I could think of no others we'd rather be with.

Thanks to our friends for yet another great time at IMS! OH, & take home the checkered flag, Fernando Alonso!
